Uniform Fabric Selection for India’s Climate

From humid coasts to dry heat — choosing fabrics that wearers can actually work in.

Climate is not one thing in India

A uniform programme spanning Chennai, Delhi and Mumbai faces humid heat, dry heat and monsoon conditions. Fabric selection should be regionalised where headcount justifies it, or balanced for the harshest condition.

Fabric families that work

Cotton-rich blends offer breathability and comfort; polyester-viscose and poly-cotton blends add durability, colour retention and easier care. For field and industrial roles, heavier twills with mechanical stretch improve wear life.

Fact: higher polyester content generally dries faster and resists wrinkles; higher cotton content generally feels cooler against skin. Opinion: for Indian conditions, blends around 60–65% cotton often balance both — but swatch testing with real wearers beats any rule of thumb.

Test before you commit

Run wash testing (10+ cycles), colourfastness checks and wearer trials in actual working conditions before bulk approval. Record approved fabric codes for reorders.
